O.J. Simpson, the former NFL great who received “Not Guilty” verdicts in the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman in 1995, was granted parole last week from a Nevada prison after having served less than nine years of a 33-year sentence for the 2007 robbery of a sports memorabilia dealer in Las Vegas.
Watch Simpson’s parole outcome from ABC News video:
Now that Simpson is free, what will be the fate of his assets? He has approximately $600,000 from his NFL pension that accrued while he was behind bars.
According to a report by ESPN, Simpson gets to keep it – all of it. Retirement income – including Simpson’s NFL pension – is protected under federal law, and can’t be touched. This is despite the fact that of the approximately $33 million remains unpaid to the Brown and Goldman families as part of the judgment of the 1997 wrongful death verdicts in the civil case from the 1994 murders.
It only gets better for O.J., as he will be able to keep his Florida house, under state law, if he chooses to move there upon release.
Simpson had been sentenced to a nine – 33 year term at Nevada’s Lovelock Correctional Center, following his 2008 conviction of burglary and armed robbery. Simpson was of course free to commit the crime because he walked after the 1995 verdicts from his criminal trial for his wife Nicole’s and her friend’s Ronald Goldman’s gruesome murders.

In that case, Simpson’s “dream team” of lawyers – including Johnnie Cochran, Robert Shapiro, F. Lee Bailey, and Robert Kardashian – managed to beat the murder charges against their client despite, among things, DNA evidence fingering O.J. as the perp.
Following last week’s parole hearing outcome, the injustice to the Brown and Goldman families will continue, while O.J. Simpson will, once again free. As Attorney Tony Scotto told the USA Today last week in an interview, “He’s not going to be poor. He’ll survive. He’ll be able to get his own place.”
O.J. Simpson will soon be playing golf in Florida. Unbelievable.
