South-West Finland police sent out a tweet saying, “Several people stabbed in central Turku. People are requested to avoid the city centre.”
Several ambulances were rushed to the scene of the attack while police preformed multiple checks on public transportation.
Fortunately, police in Finland were able to catch up with the suspect, taking the man in to custody after having to shoot him in the leg.
Police have not yet provided any details or information about the person in custody or a possible motive for the attack. Authorities are expected to release more to the public later today during a news conference.
The incident took place in the Puutori-Market Square area. One image posted showed a body lying on the ground that had been covered.
People have been warned not to come to the area and to stay away from the city center.
This comes only a day after an Islamic State terrorist attack in Barcelona, Spain. Fourteen people were killed during this incident.
Is the Islamic State also behind this attack?
For now, that is still unknown. Video has recently come out of the stabber yelling, “Allahu Akbar!” This is a common Islamist phrase which translates to “God is the greatest.”
Another clue is how quickly news of the attack spread on Telegram.
Telegram is a popular app used by several terrorist organizations to send encrypted messages to one another.
Do you believe this was another terrorist attack?
