BREAKING NEWS: Several horrific shootings have left numerous people dead in Chicago — the city with one of the strictest gun control laws in the nation.
At about 2:45 a.m. on Friday morning, Chicago police responded to the scene after receiving a call of a person shot.
Jeremont Montgomery, a resident near where the shooting took place, said he had heard about 15 gunshots early on Friday, but they sounded like they were further west. Himself and another resident, Jerrell Harris, believe that the shooting was random as it’s usually a very quiet block.
These men also pointed out an extremely great point. “You can pass the toughest gun laws in the world and put police on each block,” Montgomery stated. “It will not make a difference. It’s an issue of a community that needs to be healed.”
The man that was fatally shot in Chatham was just one of 20 people in Chicago who were shot during a 19-houur period from Thursday to early Friday. Six of those were fatal.
One was a 27-year-old man who had been taken to Roseland Community Hospital for a gunshot wound to the chest, later to be pronounced dead at 1 a.m. His name was Vincent Hubbard.
At 11:55 p.m. on Thursday 33-year-old Steven Winston accidentally shot himself in the abdomen with a gun he was carrying in his waistband. He was pronounced dead at 12:57 a.m.
Right before at 11:50 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. Thursday night, a 29 and 24-year-old were both shot while on the street in separate locations in Chicago.
On the West Side at about 12:20 p.m. Another 29-year-old was shot multiple times and killed by someone walking on foot. He was pronounced dead 38 minutes later.
His name was Derrick Murray.
Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in the country yet shootings are on the upswing. The liberal approach to solve this problem just isn’t cutting it.
