The sex robot industry is reportedly about to take over the world as robots are being made that are increasingly lifelike. Now, an announcement has been made about these robots that has some feeling disturbed.
The U.K. Express reported that grieving men are now ordering dolls to be designed to look like their dead wives. Douglas Hines, an engineer at True Companions, said that this is actually a good thing because it is helping men grieve their spouses.
“Maybe 50 per cent [of customers] are people who want a custom robot for family members,” Hines said. “That’s what True Companion is all about and that’s why it’s called True Companion.”
He went on to say that requests for a doll resembling a partner come second only to requests for celebrity lookalikes.
“80 per cent of involvement is social, meaning the interaction which is a bit mundane and conversational,” Hines said. “But maybe 10-20 per cent is the actual physical engagement with the robot, from a sexual perspective. Most of the customers are just people looking for companionship, a loving touch and a warm embrace.”
Hines’ company builds sex robots capable of talking to their owners as well as learning things about them such as their likes and dislikes.
